Conservationist vs. Preservationist
Gifford Pinchot was the first director of the Forest Service and a staunch advocate of resource use policy in our national forests. John Muir was highly influential in creating the National Park Service, and furthering the ideo of hands off preservation in our wildlands. Though the two men were the closest of friends, as philosophies grew to become realizations, they parted ways.
With so many homes being built in a forest that has been taken out of management, we no longer have a choice between Pinchot and Muir. Homeowners want the archetype, but education is needed to achieve this ideal. Can you control nature without changing what it is that brought you to nature?

It is our belief that the landscape ecologist and the educator are one in the same. The point is to further much more than a single backyard, we must further an ethic.
Firewise Landscapes, Inc. creates a style of forest dwelling that is more functionally in tune with the fire dynamics of an always changing and not always forgiving forest. We blend the artistic and visual desires of the client with the ecological demands of the forest.
